CAMBRIDGE June 4, 1999 To support the United States Senate in responding to the hundreds of thousands of e-mail messages received each day. General Interactive, Inc., ("GII") The E-Mail Company, has been awarded a contract for E-Mail Management by the Office of the Sergeant at Arms. Under the terms of the Agreement, the US Senate will use GII's award-winning E-Mail Management Software, EchoMail*, to improve online service.

EchoMail automatically reads, stores, routes, logs, and tracks inbound and outbound e-mail using advanced pattern recognition and classification technology. EchoMail is based on core technology called XIVA*, the product of two decades of research in signal processing, information retrieval, neural networks, natural language processing, and semantic networks. Key benefits of EchoMail include the use of standard external computer interfaces for input of data and the ability of the system to handle incoming information in a robust manner, without loss or duplication. Other benefits include high performance throughput of information into EchoMail and fast resumption of services after a network failure.

"EchoMail was selected to help improve online service. It will be used to receive, manage, route, respond to and track inbound and outbound e-mail by each Senate office, explained Steve Walker, manager, Web and Technology Assessment. 'This solution will help Senators reduce processing time when tracking and responding to e-mail received from their constituents.

"Given the growing number of people online and the exploding demand for service, e-mail processing and response has become more complicated, says V.A. Shiva, president and CEO, General Interactive, Inc. Mismanaged e-mail can ruin long-standing relationships or damage valued reputations. EchoMail is designed to help improve relationships and handle high volumes of inbound and outbound e-mail. It is a valuable tool for any organization interested in listening to their customers."
