CAMBRIDGE, MA - May 3, 1999- General Interactive Inc., The E-Mail Company, today announced the general availability
of its EchoMail* solution with IBM's DB2** Universal Database and MQSeries **. The EchoMail family of products, which also
incorporates IBM Suite for Windows NT** and Lotus Domino***, provides companies with intelligent messaging solutions for
electronic relationship marketing and management.
The EchoMail solutions automatically read, store, route, log, and track inbound and outbound e-mail using advanced pattern
recognition and classification technology. EchoMail is based on core technology called XIVA*, the product of two decades of
research in signal processing, information retrieval, neural networks, natural language processing, and semantic networks. Key
benefits of EchoMail include the use of standard external computer interfaces for input of customer data and the ability of
the system to handle incoming information in a robust manner, without loss or duplication. Other benefits include high performance
throughput of customer information into EchoMail and fast resumption of services after a network failure.
Specifically, General Interactive has integrated IBM products with four EchoMail solutions (www.echomail.com). EchoMail/CC
is a workflow platform for receiving, managing, routing, responding to, and tracking inbound e-mail originating from a Web site
or Internet address. EchoMail/DM is a direct marketing platform for managing mailing lists and executing outbound multi-media
e-mail campaigns. EchoMail/RM, a relationship marketing platform, offers the workflow capabilities of EchoMail/CC combined with
a business intelligence module that automates the e-mail classification and response process. EchoMail/LM is a Web-based, real-time
lead capture and management system built specifically for trade shows and the small and medium size business market.
"Today, the potential for using e-mail capabilities to improve marketing efforts and customer relationships are virtually
endless," said Scott Armour, Director, Worldwide ISV Software Sales & Marketing, IBM Software. "Leveraging the strengths of
DB2 Universal Database and MQSeries within EchoMail helps companies keep their fingers on the pulse of customer desires and
manage effective direct e-mail campaigns and promotions."
"The chief mission of General Interactive and EchoMail is to deliver relationship marketing and unified intelligent messaging
solutions that improve customer satisfaction," said V.A. Shiva chief executive officer, General Interactive. "Now, we can utilize
the advanced communications infrastructure of IBM's MQSeries and the reliability and scalability of DB2 to offer a robust solution
allowing businesses to improve customer relationships and take full advantage of e-business opportunities."
